Care Ministries

Scripture tells us that God is close to the brokenhearted and that God sets the lonely in families. The First Church family of believers is here to show the love of Christ through helping to meet the needs of those who are struggling.  Our Care and Stephen ministries provide support to folks who are dealing with a variety of life situations and include: Partners in Care, Stephen Ministries, Divorce Care, and DC4K.

PARTNERS IN CARE

Partners in Care is a ministry of First Church dedicated to sharing the love of Christ with those having limited mobility. As a Partner, you will be paired with a home-bound member as a visitor and a friend. Requirements to be a Partner in Care involves visiting your partner at least once a month for a minimum of one year, and to pray for your partner daily.

If you have an interest in possibly becoming a Partner in Care, please contact Pastor Rick Waters at [email protected].

STEPHEN MINISTRIES

Stephen Ministers are people with spiritual gifts of mercy, faith, and caring who have received thorough training to provide confidential one-on-one Christian care to you or someone you know experiencing difficult times such as grief, hospitalization, divorce, separation, job crisis, chronic illness, spiritual warfare, disaster or accident recovery, birth, adoption, miscarriage, and many more.

Your Stephen Minister listens, supports, cares, and prays; walking beside you by meeting with you for an hour weekly for as long as is needed. Stephen Ministry care is confidential and remains private.

If you or someone you know could benefit from the confidential care and support of a Stephen Minister, please talk with one of the pastors or one of First Church’s Stephen Leaders: Allison Keppler (484-574-3349), Jill Robbins (570-971-8832), or Michelle Dixon (570-772-1430)

DIVORCE CARE

DivorceCare is a special weekly seminar and support group for people who are separated or divorced. It’s a place where you can be around people who understand what you are feeling. DivorceCare is a 13-week video seminar series featuring some of the nation’s foremost Christian experts on divorce and recovery topics as seen from a biblical perspective. The video seminar is combined with a support group discussion of the materials presented during the video. Each session is “self-contained,” and you may join at any time. If you know someone going through a divorce, make sure he or she knows about DivorceCare. It might just be the best thing you could do to help. For more information, pick up a brochure at the information desk, or visit www.divorcecare.org.

DivorceCare meets every Sunday night in Room 104 of the First Evangelical Center from 6:30 – 8:30 PM. Call Lou Anne Barnhart at (570-323-5146) to register.
