ADVENT BIBLE STUDY

Nov 26, Dec 3, Dec 10, Dec 17, 10:00 AM  | 604 Market St

This Bible study is designed to focus on the nature of Jesus through the lenses of four different roles. These roles are categories the Bible uses to help describe who Jesus is and the significance of Jesus’ story to God’s ultimate mission and our relationship to God. These four roles are that of the Prophet, the Priest, the King, and God. This course will be approaching questions like, “What did the ancient audiences come to expect from people who took up these roles? How did Jesus take on these roles? How are we supposed to reflect elements from these roles in our lives?”

This course will be a deep dive, but it will also be moving swiftly through the bigger picture story of the Bible to trace themes around these roles. In general, each week will start in Old Testament texts to develop and understanding of the ancient audience’s expectations around these roles, then we will move into the New Testament to see how Jesus met or didn’t meet these expectations. If you are interested in Bible study and historical context, this will likely be of interest to you.

Each week will include both lectures and discussion. There will be varying levels of engagement you will be able to select as “homework.” Resources will be offered and suggested for you to engage with as you can in order to prepare for each week. If you have any questions, or wish to participate, please reach out to Ben.
