Don’t blink! Next month, believe it or not, is Christmas! Christmas is the biggest worship opportunity of the year for us at First Church. People who don’t go to church any other time of the year are open to an invitation to worship at Christmas. So, we try to do everything we can to help people experience the presence of God. There are many beloved traditions at Christmas, like singing Silent Night in the glow of hundreds of candles. But every year is also just a little bit different as we seek to continually share the gospel to the fullest degree in our changing world. As we prepare for Christmas 2018, I wanted to share with you our Christmas worship schedule and highlight some of the ways that we feel we have some new opportunities to share the gospel this Christmas season.

Family Service on Sunday 12/23 at 4:00 pm. We realize this is a shift from the time we have celebrated in past years. However, for many people, Christmas Eve is a very full and rushed day. Allowing our children to lead worship on Sunday (rather than Monday) will provide the time and space for families to worship without the demands and distractions that are inevitable on the day before Christmas. In this way, we hope celebrating this service on December 23 will be a way to bring even greater opportunity to our children and families to celebrate Christmas. There will be refreshments after the service so that families can relax and enjoy time together. Many large, growing churches have recognized that offering Christmas Eve services on 12/23 gives families the opportunity to worship with their church family before traveling to be with family.
Modern Candlelight Service 12/24 at 9:30 in CLC. For those who love contemporary worship, join us in the Christian Life Center this year. There will be a full band and the timeless message of the birth of Jesus will be celebrated in a way that is relevant and meaningful for our modern world.
We hope these changes are exciting to you and will help us celebrate Christmas in the most significant way possible. Would you please begin thinking and praying now about who you can invite to join us to celebrate the wonderful news of the birth of the savior? We look forward to celebrating this holy time with you.
